CCF Summer Camps

The CCF held three very successful summer camps.

Some members of C Company deployed to Gibraltar for ten days on their summer camp. The expedition leader RSM Larkin, organised with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and a civilian dive company the PADI open water diving course. All the cadets attained their diving qualification after completing a very successful course with excellent instruction from various agencies. It also gave the cadets a chance to visit cultural sites of Gibraltar through an organised programme of events. A day trip to Tangiers in Morocco was also enjoyed by all. Contact was made and a visit undertaken to the local Gibraltar cadet company and a link was formed for future trips and activities.

Other members of C Company attended a ten-day camp in Cyprus led and organised by Major Farley at Dhekalia Garrison, South East Cyprus. The first two or three days were taken up with weapons handling reminder lessons, briefings and sleep. Trips to the Akrotiri Kart Racing Club and an Ayia Napa water-park were also all part of the 'acclimatisation period'.
The next phase of the camp began with deployment to a live firing range in Akrotiri RAF base, an hour from Dhekalia. A highlight of the camp was the opportunity to be deployed in a fully operational Griffin Helicopter followed a by a 24 hour battle exercise. Camp concluded with horse-riding and swimming. Particular thanks go to the support of 7 Rifles especially Major Mike Scott Hyde and W02 Jamie Dwyer without whom the exercise and range package would not have been able to take place.

Flying Officer Russell organised a very successful D Company Duke of Edinburgh expedition trip to Scotland
