Literary Society

The Literary society hosted Professor David Hopkins to talk about the issues surrounding editing literary texts. Professor Hopkins spoke about the disparity between different versions of the same text, and the influence this can have on the meaning. He also addressed the difficulties in translating work, and providing notes and glossaries, and whether this is something which alters one’s reading of a text for the better or worse. Professor Hopkins’ talk in 6 Caxton was a fascinating look at a controversial subject which literary editors continue to debate.
