Slavonic Society

In the midst of the Ukrainian crisis, the Slavonic and Salisbury Societies were exceptionally lucky to host the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia, Minister-Councillor Alexander Kramarenko, in Upper School. Mr Kramarenko took a distinctly Russian line, stating that the Crimea was – albeit only since Potemkin – Russian through and through. He was adamant however that Russia would not push further into Ukraine. A notable point of contention in the questions lay in the comparison between the plebiscite in Crimea, and the lack thereof in Chechnya. Ben Harrison PBS
