A thrilling cup run, which included a 4-2 defeat of this cohort’s reigning champions Whitgift, put Eton through to a home semi-final. The opponents were Aldenham who, like many schools on the circuit, boasted a number of academy players. These players were to the fore as Aldenham strolled into a 3-0 lead, with Eton uncharacteristically timid.

A second half-rally saw Eton claw themselves back into the game and two goals from Mat Obichere – the second an exquisite half-volley from outside the area – ensured a tight finish.

Despite late pressure, the game finished 3-2 to Aldenham. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise brilliant season for the Eton U15s, who can nonetheless be very proud of their efforts this year.
