Other Activities
Boys in their last two years have the opportunity to get involved with one of the many Social Service projects, giving up some of their free time to help in local primary schools or in special schools for the handicapped, to help in charity shops, to visit elderly folk in the community, etc, etc.
They can also join the Combined Cadet Force. Eton has established close links with the Army and the other armed services, and we are perhaps uniquely lucky in having a regular Army Officer seconded to act as our Adjutant.
There are plenty of opportunities for boys of all ages interested in Writing to develop their journalistic or creative skills and maybe see their work published in the Eton College Chronicle or one of the many other internal publications.
There are also opportunities for technically-minded boys interested in developing their creative skills in the world of Audio/Video production.
And boys of all ages are encouraged to take advantage of Eton’s multifarious Societies. Many of these act as a valuable adjunct to curricular work, inviting outside academics to bring alive their research and thinking to the School audience, but many have splendidly little to do with the official curriculum.
The list of extra-curricular activities does not end there, of course: some boys become tourist guides, one boy kept an owl at Eton, some boys cultivate window-boxes. But we hope that we have painted an illuminating and entertaining picture of what Eton has to offer.
