Sixth Form Scholarships

Up to eight Sixth Form Scholarships are awarded annually to candidates from UK maintained schools. One of these may be awarded to a boy of outstanding musical ability and one may also go to a boy of outstanding ability in the theatre/drama/performing arts.  In addition to the eight scholarships the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Music Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding musician from a family who could not otherwise afford the school fees.

The scholarships are tenable for two years, during which their holders study three or more subjects to A-level. Almost all Sixth Form Scholarships are awarded to boys from UK maintained schools. However, candidates receiving substantial bursarial assistance at UK fee-paying schools with no provision for Years 12 and 13 may apply.

If you will be under 16 on 1st September at the start of your main GCSE year, you are eligible to apply for one of these scholarships; you should be expecting very good grades at GCSE.

There is an open day for prospective candidates and their parents in October, and you need to submit an application by the first week in December. Reports on current progress and likely GCSE grades will be sought from schools. On the basis of these reports, short-listed candidates will be asked to come to Eton in February (bringing examples of recent work with them) for interviews in their likely AS-level subjects, an aptitude test, and a general paper. A confidential medical report will also be required before a candidate can be accepted, which may on occasion include specified medical tests.

The scholarships cover the whole or part of the fees and other educational expenses, according to parental means. Parents are asked to contribute what seems reasonable after an assessment of their financial situation (the parents of all short-listed candidates are asked to complete a confidential form giving details of their financial circumstances).
