Amnesty Society

Drawing on historical events such as the ‘Solidarity’ movement in Poland, Mr Crawshaw highlighted the fact that even the smallest acts of resistance could bring revolutionary change. Although Mr Crawshaw did acknowledge contemporary human rights issues in places such as Syria and Qatar, he concluded that there has been remarkable progress around the world over the past few decades in achieving universal human rights. Mr Crawshaw went on to explain that society has become more sensitive towards human rights abuses and thus events in Syria and Qatar have entered the media spotlight. We are better off today than we were in the past, but there is still work to be done for us to ensure that human rights are protected all around the world.
