Cricket News

Last week saw great weather for cricket, and the good pitches helped to provide some excellent games.  Dr Challoner’s A teams were too strong for our B teams on Tuesday, and the Butteflies manged a rare win against the XXII thanks to a century from Willie Boone OE, a former rackets world champion.  The XXXIII saw off an enthusiastic Guards side with 54 from Rufus Loveridge.  For the XI, runs from Will Vanderspar (72*) and Rory Cox (62) overcame Oakham by 8 wickets.  In Saturday’s big block fixture against Radley, there were an amazing six centuries made by Eton batsmen – Vanderspar and Cox in the XI, Nico Fitzroy in the XXII, Charlie Steel for USC, Geordie Sinclair for LSB (164*) and Tom Raichura for T3 – after his side were 60-6.  USB fought hard to defend 120 and had Radley eight wickets down, while USA batted sensibly to win their game.  Teddy James (80*) again batted well for T1, and they won their game by nine wickets.  James Townsend scored 80 for T7 on his debut.  Lower Club and Middle Club had inverse fortunes, with Strawberry sharing the fate of Lower Club, but enjoyed their games – compliments about our behaviour from opposition masters are always very welcome!  LSA lost narrowly, LSB won easily, LSC lost heavily while LSD won convincingly.  The attached picture is of a wicket-taking delivery in T5.
