Eton’s Model United Nations Club were well-represented at this year’s St Paul’s MUN Conference between 12th and 14th January, during which they debated with delegates from schools in the UK, France and Austria.

The topics under debate in the United Nations simulation included the North Korean nuclear missile crisis, ISIS/Daesh, climate refugees, development aid, the persecution of religious minorities, free trade, automation and state sovereignty amongst others. There was also a committee simulation set in 1985, requiring delegates to debate nuclear disarmament and the question of military involvement in Afghanistan in the context of the mid-1980s.

Three Etonians were awarded certificates for their contributions: Zac Rawlinson, Tad Sikorski and Tony Ford, and all delegates demonstrated their in-depth knowledge of global affairs, understanding of United Nations procedure and capacity to debate controversial issues with confidence.
