Last week, Olympic gold medallist Ben Hunt-Davis MBE entertained the Viking Society with his retelling of the Sydney 2000 Olympic rowing eight’s victorious performance.

After a defeat at the 1998 World Championships, the team decided to tailor all their training and work around one simple question, “will it make the boat go faster?”. For two years every action, from the make of the rudder to the composition of the crew, attempted to answer this question. It enabled the unexpected but glorious win in Sydney just two years later.

Whilst this talk held particular relevance for the rowing community, Ben succinctly showed how setting clear goals and targets can lead to success in any area.

I would like to personally thank Ben Hunt-Davis for his engaging and informative talk.
