Last week, VocSoc were fortunate to hear from Emma Cooper, producer and former Global President of Non-Fiction at Pulse Films.

Emma came to talk about her experience as an award-winning documentary filmmaker, and the career trajectory that has enabled recent successes such as The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann, released in March last year, which was Netflix’s most-watched programme of 2019.

She explained that her experience at Channel 4 and the BBC introduced her to Louis Theroux, the broadcaster and filmmaker, with whom she has produced many documentaries, including Louis Theroux: Miami Mega Jail.

Emma launched her own production company recently, Empress Films, which will operate in both London and LA. Despite landing from America just that morning, Emma inspired the audience with her passion for filmmaking.
