Head of the Charles

The VIII and second VIII raced at the Head of the Charles in Boston, USA on Sunday 18th October. The VIII was defending the Youth Eights title won in 2008 and did so in style, beating all of the seventy eight other crews convincingly. The second VIII came an extremely creditable tenth, having had to start 52nd as a new entry this year. Alex Treco (RGGP '08) also won Collegiate Eights for Williams' crew. Nick Jordan (CMJ '08) and Ant Locke (CWM '07) raced for Harvard University, and Mike Evans raced for Princeton (RPDF '09) adding to the Etonian flavour.

The course is a very technical one, and this year the weather conditions made for tough conditions which would normally put us indoors watching the six nations on TV. Freezing temperatures, snow and 20mph northerly winds added an extra challenge to overcome in this year's race. Sincere thanks to Belmont Hill school and the families of the boys there that hosted our crews, and to Hudson, our boat manufacturers who supplied us with two brand new boats in which to race. After leavening on Thursday at midday, we're now back in first school on Monday after quite an extraordinary weekend.
