Parry Society

Mr Franglen, and eminent film composer, opened his talk with a brief overview of his career, ranging from months of 14 hour days in studios until he began to hallucinate through fatigue, to working on the score for Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time. The bulk of his talk, however, was concentrated on the process of providing music "by the yard" for big-name directors. He demonstrated this by showing us two scores written on computer software: one from the latest James Bond film and another from Spiderman. Having contrasted  the fun of making well-known concert pianists slam pianos and the disappointment of directors always cutting his favourite bits, he left us in awe of the skill and devotion required to make it in this part of the music industry.
