On 21 June, Eton College celebrated the 15-year anniversary of the creation of the Rokos Scholarship. Old Etonian Chris Rokos, founder and CIO of Rokos Capital Management, began supporting the New Foundation Scholarship in 2010, which has since been renamed to recognise his generosity. In 1984, Chris himself received a scholarship to attend Eton because of his academic talent.

In honour of Chris’s transformative gift to the College endowment, Eton held a ceremony to unveil a memorial sundial in the newly named Rokos Yard (formally called the Parade Ground).  The event began with the inauguration of the Rokos Scholars’ Board in the iconic stairwell outside Chapel with an address by Eton’s Provost, Sir Nicholas Coleridge, CBE, DL. Attendees then moved to the Rokos Yard where a sundial designed by Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd OE was unveiled. Here, with the Fellows in attendance, Head Master Simon Henderson gave a speech of thanks on behalf of the School.

The inscription on the sundial captures the eternal nature of Chris’s contribution: ‘This was a gift not of an age but for all time.’ We look forward to supporting future scholarship recipients and helping them to reach their full academic potential in the centuries to come.

The Rokos Scholarship is granted to boys who are outstanding academically, educated in the state system at primary level and in need of financial assistance to attend the College. At any given time, there are 20 boys, four from each year, who benefit from the Rokos Scholarship and receive an education they would otherwise be unable to access.
