Eton College’s Composer in Residence, Christian Mason, was the recent winner of an Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung Composer Prize. His portrait film about his work is available to view.
This is the latest success in Christian’s career which will see a new piece for Pierre Boulez's 90th birthday performed by London Sinfonietta at this summer's BBC Proms on August 29th, following its world premiere by Ensemble Intercontemporain at the Lucerne Festival a week earlier. He recently completed the work Layers of Love for large ensemble, which was recorded by Klangforum Wien for a forthcoming portrait CD (due for release in November 2015), and will be performed by the Tokyo Sinfonietta in Tokyo in July. His piece Sympathetic Resonance for symphony orchestra, which was commissioned Radio-France for broadcast later this year, was recently recorded by the Orchestre National de France.
All of his recent pieces were composed whilst at Eton. As Composer in Residence, Christian also works with boys individually or in small groups and workshops to encourage and develop their composition skills.
Christian read music at the University of York and went on to complete a PhD at King’s College London with George Benjamin in 2012, following which he was awarded the 2012 Mendelssohn Scholarship to study with Frank Denyer.
