Last week, Eton College announced a range of initiatives to try and help the local community in this time of national crisis. In an interview with The Times, Head Master Simon Henderson revealed that the school would be staying open to support the children of key workers, as well as vulnerable children in the local area, such as those on free school meals.
Children aged 5-13 will engage in a programme of activities using Eton facilities and supported by volunteers, both teaching and non-teaching staff, and boys who have offered to help. The initiative will continue through the Easter holidays, and right up until Eton itself fully re-opens.
Eton is also looking to open boarding Houses to accommodate key workers who may need alternative accommodation if their families are self-isolating.
Finally, Eton is offering its EtonX online self-study courses to every secondary school in the country, free of charge. Courses include guidance on writing CVs and preparing for interviews, as well as improving creative writing and essay writing skills.
In this time of crisis it is more important than ever that we come together as a community by sharing our resources.
