Gymnasium

Facilities and Equipment

The Gymnasium includes the general-purpose Whiteley Hall, a smaller hall for gymnastics and badminton, a lecture room, and other rooms equipped for weight training, martial arts, fencing, and table tennis. We also have a 25m swimming pool. Natural and artificial obstacles form part of an extensive outdoor adventure training course, and there is a climbing wall.

Curricular

Physical Education is a compulsory subject within the curriculum in F and E, and aims to improve every boy’s self-confidence and physical skills. Activities taught include ball skills, swimming (including personal survival and life-saving), gymnastics, life-support, leadership and teamwork, and fitness, health and physical conditioning.

Co-Curricular

Badminton and Basketball are played in the Gymnasium.

Expert tuition is provided in the principal martial arts: Aikido, Judo, Karate, Tai Chi and Kung Fu.

Eton has a splendid Fencing Salle and provides expert coaching for boys of all ages, from beginners to experts, all of whom are encouraged to participate in our internal competitions.

Table Tennis is an increasingly popular sport. We run a singles and a doubles competition each year, but no matches against other schools as yet.

The Whiteley Hall is used for many purposes, ranging from indoor coaching for our top cricketers during the winter months to informal five-a-side football.
