Sixth Form (16+) Entry - Eton College
Menu

Boys who are studying at a UK independent school, or overseas school may apply for a fee-paying Sixth Form place, or can apply through the Orwell Award (for boys in UK state schools).

Applicants should be of a high academic standard (ideally gaining a minimum of six GCSEs at Grade 7 or overseas equivalent) who are also likely to make a notable contribution to school life in sport or in the arts.

Life at Eton

The best thing about Eton is that it allows you to become who you want to be. It brings out what your passions are and it gives you the chance to try anything that you think you will be good at and, if you are good at it, Eton pushes you to become even better and really brings out the best in you.

Registration for Sixth Form Entry (Fee-Paying Places)

A limited number of places (approximately 20) will be available each year for entry into the Sixth Form. The deadline for entry into Sixth Form in 2026 has now passed and we are currently accepting registrations for entry in 2027 only. Places will be offered to boys of a high academic standard who are also likely to make a notable contribution to school life in sport or in the arts. The minimum qualifying standard is six GCSEs (or overseas equivalent) at grade 7, but the level is likely to be significantly higher. Please note that there is no bursary support available for boys applying via this route.

Applying for a fee-paying place at Sixth Form

  • October 2026: The application form must be completed by early October 2026. Prospective Sixth Form pupils will be required to provide their predicted GCSE grades (or international equivalent for overseas students) and their most recent set of school reports; they must also answer a series of personal statement style questions about their application to Eton, including their co-curricular interests and achievements.
  • November 2026: Candidates will be invited to Eton for academic assessments in the second half of November. This will consist of an online cognitive test and specific subject tests. Shortlisted candidates will then have an online pastoral interview and we will contact your school for a reference. Candidates wishing to be considered for an honorary Music Award should indicate this on the application form. We will contact applicants nearer the time about arrangements for an audition with our Head of Music, should the candidate reach the short-list stage.
  • Early December 2026: Results will be announced.

Registration for Sixth Form entry in 2027 opens on 24 June 2026. Please note that there is a non-refundable registration fee of £480 inc. VAT.

We welcome prospective families who would like to learn more about life in the Sixth Form, to one of our Sixth Form tours, which we hold in June and September. Our Sixth Form tours in 2026 are for families interested in a Sixth Form place in 2027 only.

The Orwell Award

Applications for the Orwell Award open the summer before a boy starts Year 11 in a UK School (usually early July). The application deadline for the Orwell Award is usually in mid-September and Sixth Form Entry in early October. Please see the application form for each year’s specific dates.

All applications received will be considered and we will then shortlist boys to be invited to Eton for an assessment in November or December.
