Upon hearing the lockdown siren (a sound that fluctuates in tone and pitch), think Run, Hide, Tell and carry out the following actions:
RUN
Go to the nearest building (except Bekynton – Security and staff will coordinate a controlled evacuation to James Schools/Music). If you are in a remote location (e.g. Agar’s or Dutchman’s) don’t return to the built-up areas of the College but run away from the sirens. Thames Valley Athletics Centre is a suitable lockdown location.
- Get into an office or room, preferably on a higher floor (if possible and safe to do so). If getting to a higher floor is not possible, remain within an office or room out of view and lock or barricade the door. If in a corridor, get into a room.
- Masters, Heads of Department and / or Deputies should control and coordinate the lockdown procedure in the building they occupy at that time. You may be asked to take a roll call of those in your building.
- If you are in the street or other public place attempt to gain access to the nearest building.
- Lock the door (unless Paxton controlled).
- Carefully monitor main access/egress points of the building and allow access to boys/known staff locked out.
HIDE
Close internal doors, keep away from windows or for those on the fields in a hidden space away from the built-up areas of the College.
- Turn off the lights and draw any blinds/shut windows.
- Sit down against an interior wall.
- Stay out of view and behind something solid.
- Ensure your mobile phone is on silent.
- Do not post on social media.
- Remain quiet.
TELL
Report any issues of concern that would be helpful to security and statutory authorities.
- If possible monitor emails and WhatsApp group messages. Communicate security related messages to colleagues and those present.
As soon as Security are satisfied that a full and effective lockdown has taken place, the all clear siren (continuous tone) will sound and you are asked to follow the instructions set out in the email communications to all staff and boys. Any boy who is not aware of any communication should return to his House, unless he knows that the lockdown was a practice.
