On Friday 28th February, the Amnesty and Law Societies welcomed Lord Lester QC. In what must have been one of the most erudite talks of the year, Lord Lester spoke about the necessity of maintaining the Human Rights Act and its ideals. He called on the British government to carry out their obligation to conform with European rulings on cases related to prisoner voting rights and internment without trial. Lord Lester's great disappointment was that the audience before him were overwhelmingly liberal in their views; he was expecting a baying mob of eurosceptics! This humble secretary tried his very best to rise to the challenge! We thank Lord Lester very sincerely for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
