On the 7th of February, Ian Martin, former General Secretary of Amnesty International and a senior UN official, addressed the Amnesty Society. Whilst talking about his work in countries such as Sri Lanka and Nepal, Mr Martin highlighted the importance of international institutions such as the UN and Amnesty International in helping nations develop Human Rights laws and peace treaties. Following his talk, Mr Martin answered a variety of questions from the students, elaborating on his experiences in countries such as Rwanda and Libya, before sharing his views on the current situation in Syria. It was a fantastic meeting with a great turnout.
