On 26th February, the Broadcasting Society was delighted to welcome comedy royalty John Lloyd CBE. Mr Lloyd was interviewed about his stellar career in British comedy, both in radio, where he was responsible for shows such The News Quiz and Just a Minute, and television, in which his CV boasts Blackadder, Spitting Image and QI. Mr Lloyd’s Footlights background did not go unnoticed as he regaled the audience with stories about working with friends who went on to become world-famous stars, and the occasional difficulties therein. John spoke of how his most recent creation, QI, came to be, and had some words of wisdom for the audience (which packed the Marten Library to the rafters), most importantly his personal mantra: “disaster is a gift”.
