The fourth VocSoc meeting of the year was a well-attended seminar by Shomik Panda OE. He talked about the world of political consultancy, his company, Inline, and the work they do specialising in emerging technology policy areas, such as the regulation of online platforms and the collaborative economy. He explained the range of advice they provide to companies and the strategies and campaigns they employ to actively engage and influence the law-making process. The boys gained real insight into the activities that take place in this sector and the way in which political debate can be shaped and policies and, ultimately, laws changed. Using a case study approach the talk was pitched perfectly and the quality of the questions at the end was a testament to a successful talk which had raised awareness and expanded horizons.
