Eton College received notable recognition at the Grounds Management Association (GMA) Awards held in Leeds last week.

The School’s Grounds Department secured the title of Best Independent School Grounds Team of the Year.

Adding to the accolades, Eton College’s Grounds Manager, Lee Marshallsay, was honoured with the Best Groundsman of the Year award. This win marks a noteworthy milestone, as Lee becomes the first individual from the independent school sector to receive this recognition.

Lee puts the team’s success down to “determination, hard work, and working as a group”.

He said: “I am proud of them and they should all be proud of themselves.”

This news comes after they were awarded second place at last year’s awards. When asked what made the difference this time around, Lee added: “This year, we were in a better position. We have all upped our game, and we always strive to be better year on year.”

The GMA is a key industry body for the sports turf and grounds care sector in the UK.
