Twenty boys attended an extended workshop run by Minerva Capital Markets which exposed them to the world of financial trading. Despite most of the boys being frustrated initially by overseeing transactions that were mostly in the red (!) they enjoyed the experience and developed a real understanding of what trading is and what characteristics are looked for by the investment banking sector. The learning curve on the workshop was steep and they developed the insight that it is the behaviours of a trader that matter more than the Profit and Loss outcome, at least in the short term! It was also a really important opportunity for them to learn some of the vocabulary that applies to the world of finance. This will allow them to talk about their desire to enter City careers with greater confidence and credibility if and when they decide to look for work shadowing and internships.
