On 11 January, six boys from Year 12 organised and hosted a charity fitness event for Year 12 and 13 boys and teachers. The event supported Child Bereavement UK and Gingerbread, a national charity for single parents. These two organisations have personal significance to the organisers, which made the day particularly meaningful.

Over 50 participants took part, completing a challenging circuit made up of eight stations. These included sled pulls, skierg, rowing machines and running between each exercise. The scale and intensity of the event was impressive, and competitors were pushed to their physical limits, though we did adapt exercises to allow children aged six and eight to take part, which was brilliant to see.

Watching boys and teachers compete side by side, encouraging one another through fatigue and struggle, was a highlight of the day and reflected the strong sense of community within the School.

Volunteers and spectators played an important role in maintaining energy and motivation, with music playing and everyone supporting each other, which created an uplifting environment. So far, the event has raised over £3,450 for the two charities, with donations still open. This total reflects the enthusiasm and generosity shown by everyone involved.

All those who completed the challenge were rewarded with a well-earned chocolate milk, while podium finishers received prizes such as rugby shirts. Looking ahead, the organisers hope to run the event again in the future, building on this year’s success.

Next time we’d love to expand participation to include more age groups and get more people involved. Overall, the event was demanding, rewarding and memorable, and had a great impact on those who took part and the charities we raised money for.
