Congratulations to Max B, Matteo D, and Declan S (all B Block/Year 13) for receiving their rugby colours this Half.
The boys were awarded the colours in recognition of their contribution to rugby at Eton and the high level of commitment they’ve demonstrated over their time at the School.
Matteo D said: “Putting your time, effort and dedication into rugby and being part of something bigger than yourself is an honour, and being recognised for this is incredibly meaningful. Rugby colours mean everything to the boys that receive them.
“It’s a representation of all of the hours of work and training you have put in throughout your time at Eton. Earning colours is a sign of committing to and believing in something bigger than your own game, and putting the effort in for the players either side of you, on and off of the pitch.”
Our Master-in-Charge of Rugby, Mr Cramp, praised the boys’ dedication to the team both on and off the pitch. He said: “Max, Matteo and Declan have consistently embodied the values we want to see in Eton rugby, supporting their teammates, embracing challenges and contributing far beyond match days.”
For Matteo, rugby has been more than just a sport. He said: “From my first day of trials in F Block when I immediately had 14 new friends, to playing in the 1st XV now with players I have been playing with for four years, the rugby pitch has always been where I have felt the most at home at Eton.
Whether it be the games on a Saturday or the gym sessions on a Monday, I wouldn’t trade playing rugby for anything else at Eton, and being recognised with colours means an enormous amount given its the area of my life that means the most to me.”
The boys’ hard work across their four years at the School has been appreciated by both their teammates and coaches.
“We are incredibly proud,” said Mr Cramp. “We can’t wait to see what they continue to offer the rugby club in the future.”
