We are delighted to announce that two Music Scholars, Harvey Lin KS and Paul Ji, have won two highly prestigious awards as young pianists.

Harvey was invited by the Lang Lang International Music Foundation to broadcast his performance of Scarlatti, Liszt, Chopin, and Ravel. Harvey reached the keyboard final of BBC Young Musician 2020 and has won awards at the Pianist of the North International Piano Competition, the Chopin International Piano Competition, the Emanuel Trophy Piano Competition at the North London Music Festival, the Nutcracker International Competition in Russia, and the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition. Harvey spoke to Press Officer Alex Finlayson-Brown and explained that ‘music is a universal language that can touch anyone in the world; for me, I believe it is my duty to share beautiful music to enrich and enlighten people’s lives’.

Paul Ji, who joined Eton this year as an Orwell Scholar (a scholarship for promising students in Years 12 and 13), has been awarded the immensely prestigious title of a ‘Young Steinway Artist’. There have been only 107 recipients of this award worldwide, and it grants holders access to a Steinway piano wherever they perform. Paul was delighted to be awarded this prize, saying: ‘I believe music can create empathy and inspiration in this period of difficulty amid a pandemic and as a new Young Steinway Artist, I hope to use music for good.’
