Joseph Banks Society (Environmental) Professor Michael Mainelli on Environmental Sustainability and Finance
The first Banks Society meeting of the academic year welcomed Professor Michael Mainelli who talked on environmental sustainability and finance. The meeting was well attended by Masters and boys from all blocks. Many boys felt that the talk was more financially-oriented than they were expecting. However, the connection between finance and the environment, as Professor Mainelli explained, is only going to get stronger. He also explained how important it was for ‘long finance’ to develop so that the more serious results of climate change may be minimised. Professor Mainelli also talked about the London Accord, which is a unique collaboration among investment banks, research houses, academics and NGOs, providing a resource on environmental solutions. Overall it was a most informative evening.
