Last Saturday’s fixtures v Wellington, Bradfield and Marlborough

Tough day at the office for junior A and B football teams – we lost all 4 at U15AB, U14AB. Better fortune higher up the school: 16A and B both drew and the Association secured an excellent 3-1 victory. Strength in depth was again emphasised as 4ths and 5ths, playing up a team, both drew, and the 15Ds and 14Ds both won. In the other block fixture of the day, Marlborough had the upper hand winning 3 of 5 matches but the Eton teams fought valiantly, particularly as we matched up our 3rds v their 1sts, 6ths v 2nds and so on.

The Senior teams struggled against some strong Wellington sides, but with commendable performances and a very close finish in particular for the 4th XV (15-19). The XV were overpowered by a bigger, better side and didn’t play their best rugby. Colts A won a close encounter on the Field 17-12, reversing two losses in the past two seasons. It ended up two apiece in the Colts age-group. After an expensive first couple of minutes, the Junior Colts A stepped up and put in their best performance of the season against an impressive opposition, going down 26-3. All the other Junior Colts sides won quite decisively. All the Yearlings sides won, leaving a final tally of 11 wins and 9 losses.
