Medical Careers Day: So you want to be a doctor?

The Eton Medical Society ran its second annual Medical Careers conference on Saturday, 25 June 2011 in collaboration with the Royal Society of Medicine. Over 120 students registered for the event with the furthest afield coming from Brussels. 45 schools were represented as well as 20 Etonians.

In the morning, speakers from Oxford University, Imperial College, UCL, and Barts & the Royal London explained how to prepare for a medical application. After lunch, doctors (including three OEs) described the medical career track and the range of specialties on offer. Initial feedback was very positive. For a full programme please click here. George Fussey, who runs the Medical Society at Eton and who is himself a Fellow of the RSM, says that “the course runs at a tiny fraction of the cost of many commercial courses and that means it is wonderfully accessible to all students.’ You can now follow the Eton Medical Society on Twitter (@EtonMedSoc). Speakers in the last year have included Lord Darzi and Professor Lord Winston.
