Eleven prospective medics in D Block attended a series of medical career seminars at Basingstoke Hospital convened by the North Hampshire Medical Fund. The boys heard from six doctors drawn from different specialties giving the boys interesting and varied accounts of the career tracks of a doctors and insight into life as a medical student and junior doctor. The rewards and satisfactions of life in the NHS were well-balanced by honest appraisal of the potential frustrations. The keynote address was from Prof Karen Morrison, Director of Education, Faculty of Medicine who gave key advice on the admissions process and what they looked for in the students of tomorrow. It was a thoroughly worthwhile morning and well worth the journey.
