Dr Lise Llewellyn, Director of Public Health Berkshire at Bracknell Forest, gave a very informative and accessible talk about the priorities of administrative medicine. The structure of her talk revolved around 3 main points: Health Care Evaluation, Health Protection and Health Promotion. Dr Llewellyn referred to various screening programmes and methods of determining diseases. She also spoke about cases studies such as the effect of smoking on a person’s health and mortality rates related to smoking. Part of her talk focused on infectious diseases in the UK compared with endemics elsewhere in the world. It was thoroughly engaging and made one consider sides to the NHS perhaps less understood.
