Open Singles Rackets Championships

Will Hopton OE (ex-DMG) won the final of the Open Singles Rackets championship in front of a full gallery on the Eton rackets courts on Monday 30th January. Will was up against the top seed in the tournament Alex Titchener-Barrett who had beaten Will on several previous encounters. In front of a packed and vocal gallery of approximately 80 boys, Masters, family members and other spectators, Will produced an outstanding display in which his skilful control of the length of his shot, athleticism and mental strength were all required to overcome his opponent. Hopton hit some fantastic winners and is developing a power to his game that gives him the option of hitting winners early in the point. This is certainly the most prestigious win that Hopton has achieved so far and makes the likely rematch between these two players at the US Open in March an even more exciting prospect.
