We have today updated our website to reflect the outreach work undertaken by Eton over the last academic year. Highlights are:
The number of boys who are fully funded through Eton increased to 50, from 44 in the previous year. The overall percentage of boys assisted remained at 20% although the amount spent on fee remission increased from £4.9m to £5.16m. This means the average award increased from 59% to 61%.
We have worked with Liverpool Hope University and Sanctuary Housing to identify an academically able boy from a postal code area associated with families on low incomes to become a Sixth Form Scholar in Michaelmas 2013.
Our involvement with London Academy of Excellence goes from strength to strength as the pre-opening stage turned into the reality of running a school. The LAE opened in September 2012 and Eton has sponsored the English Department there. The AS results in LAE’s first year were well above the national average with about half the students returning A grades.
We announced in December 2012 that Eton would become the sole educational sponsor of Holyport College, the first boarding school established under the Government’s free schools scheme. A number of Eton’s senior staff are governors at Holyport and to date work has been done securing planning permission and recruiting the Head Master, Walter Boyle. The opening of Holyport College on time (and on budget) in September 2014 is a key focus for Eton over the forthcoming year.
We are involved with the Slough and East Berkshire CofE Multi Academy Trust which has been established to form a group of schools which can support each other to ensure the best possible outcomes for young people in Slough and nearby areas. Slough and Eton Business and Enterprise College and Colnbrook Primary are the first two schools under the trust. We hope to be able to help improve education in our local area by being involved.
We have expanded the outreach programme undertaken in respect of our Collections. The appointment of a dedicated Exhibitions & Outreach Co-ordinator means that many more young people from the local area are coming to experience Eton.

In addition to these headlines, we continue to run our successful annual Universities and Brent- Eton Summer Schools, the Choral and Rowing Courses and continue actively to participate in the Eton, Slough, Windsor and Hounslow Independent State School Partnership.
