The Simeon Society met in Upper School and roughly 45 boys attended. The subject of the talk was 'Are people inherently good?' and Revd John Irvine gave a wise, convincing and personal talk in which he looked at how humanity has never been able to overcome the problem of sin. Looking at Romans 1, it was interesting to see how all of the bad things that the Romans were struggling with are still present in our society today. It was clear from the talk that however hard we try, we cannot sort out our sinful lives, or the lives of those around us. However, his conclusion was that Jesus can forgive us for what we have done and his Holy Spirit can help us work on our sinful characteristics, and that this gift of forgiveness and help is for everyone.
