Simeon Society Mr. Simon Allcock, ‘Why didn’t Jesus save himself?’
The Simeon Society was pleased to host Mr. Simon Allcock (Head of Classics at Wellington College), who spoke on ‘Why didn’t Jesus save himself?’ This very well attended talk focused on the irony of the passers-by, the holy men and the soldiers (all of whom were present at Jesus’ crucifixion) asking the question of why he wasn’t saving himself at the very moment that he was saving them. Using a clip from the comedian Ed Byrne’s stand up show, as well as the gospels’ account of Jesus’s trial and crucifixion, the message was well conveyed and presented.
