Mr Mark Harris – ‘Is Christianity Dangerous’

For the first Simeon Society meeting of the half, we were delighted to have Mr Mark Harris tackle the topical question of ‘Is Christiantiy Dangerous?’. The majority of the talk covered two of the most infamous periods of Christian history, the crusades and the inquisitions. He explained how, in the majority of cases, it was political motives of the western powers which led to the abuse of Christianity in using it to justify atrocities. Mr Harris finished the talk, however, explaining how following the Christian faith and ‘carrying the cross’ is often dangerous, quoting Alice Cooper: "Drinking beer is easy. Trashing your hotel room is easy. But being a Christian, that’s a tough call. That’s rebellion."
