Pop Choir is up and running for the year and preparation for Songfest 2025 has begun. The Pop Choir is a singing group, run by Mr Powles that involves boys from all year groups and is completely inclusive regardless of one’s singing ability. It brings together anyone with an enthusiasm for singing into a mixed group that encourages participation.

Mr Powles leads each session on the piano and each song is dissected slowly, ensuring that every note is perfected. A variety of music is learnt, from classical pieces to pop, and after much care and dedication, the choir can deliver a polished and dynamic performance. They also learn pieces both difficult and easy to develop everyone’s musical skills. This variety ensures that there is something for all members and improves everyone’s singing skills.

Preparation for concerts helps to simulate the expectations on real musicians and to bring the group’s competence of a song to the next level. Singers also receive constant feedback throughout sessions which helps them hone their performance and understand each section’s roles.

Pop Choir is not only a musical ensemble, but also a place in which people can learn a new skill whilst meeting new people and having fun. They perform twice a year – once in February, at Songfest, and once on the Fourth of June. This term, they are preparing five songs for Songfest: Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, Livin’ on a Prayer by Jon Bon Jovi, Give me the Night by George Benson and finally, A Million Dreams from the film, The Greatest Showman.

Pop Choir are getting on well and the songs are coming together, promising for a good performance come February!
