Since the end of the Summer Half, Eton has been a hive of activity. We have welcomed 130 state school students on our annual Universities Summer School which is designed to give the students a taste of what like at university is like. The course subjects were: Maths; Maths with Physics; Maths with Chemistry; Physics with Chemistry; Biology with Chemistry; English; History & History of Art; French; Geography; and, Classics. In addition, the students attend the General Course which consists of lectures and tutorials on a range of philosophical issues and also participate in recreational activities ranging from drama, music and sport to silverwork and cookery.
Brent Summer School – Gifted and Talented students, 24 boys and 24 girls, all Post GCSE (Year 11) from 9 of the 13 secondary schools from the London Education Authority of Brent joined us for a 6 day Residential programme of Personal Development including teamwork, creative, social, academic, tutorial and downright fun activities which are designed to nourish the soul and excite the spirit for all those involved. We offered a wide range of subjects (13) including Mandarin, American Politics, History of Art and Philosophy. Every subject was well subscribed and this year there were specialist sessions on Culture, Learning, Enterprise and Further Education.
The Eton Choral Courses for singers aged 16 to 20are in full swing – seven courses will have been completed by the end of the Summer. Choral Evensong was broadcast live from College Chapel on BBC Radio 3 on Wednesday 18th July. Two Rowing Courses for boys and girls aged 12 to 18 have also been run – this year using the river rather than the Rowing Lake.
We have also welcomed international students for our Chinese and Japanese Summer Schools.
Last but by no means least, we look forward to the Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place at Eton Dorney Rowing Lake between now and early September.
The School opens on Wednesday 5th September.
