Thursday 25th April

Miss Sophie Persey delivered a fascinating lecture on the subejct of plam oil and sustainability. Miss Persey, having experience working with both NGOs and plam oil producing companies, gave a balanced and open account of the industry: discussing both the merits and problems of using and producing this very important vegetable oil. Miss Persey also suggested possible ways in which the issues associated with plam oil production could be resolved, for example the biodiversity problem can be somehwat resolved by leaving interconnnecting bands of forest among plam oil plantations. She also advised us, the audience, that we should always look to buy Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified palm oil. The talk was both interesting and engaging: an excellent meeting to conclude the Banks' society's year.
