Medical Society-Councillor Simon Dudley: The Future of the NHS

Wednesday, 31st October 2012

The Medical Society was lucky to be joined for its fourth meeting of the half by Councillor Simon Dudley. Cllr Dudley is Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and Chairman of the Shadow Health and Well-Being Board. He spoke informatively on the future of the NHS and how much of the responsibility is being shifted to the local councils. The talk was most useful for those in the audience who are considering working in the new NHS however it was also interesting for all those who use it locally as well.

The turnout may not have been as large as previous weeks, however with an audience including students from a range of schools the total reached about 60. Those in the audience asked some tough questions expressing concern over the transition period as NHS reforms come into force in April 2013. Councillor Dudley explained how and why the process would generate improved public health and more appropriate health care which will meet the needs of local residents.
