Charlie Thurston (GRP), next year’s Captain of the Boats, won gold as part of the GB VIII on the final day of the Coupe de la Jeunesse, which this year was held on the “Lake of the Gods” in Lucerne, Switzerland from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 August. Having won silver behind a fast Italian VIII on the Saturday the British VIII, which Charlie was stroking managed to go two seconds faster on the Sunday to reverse the result and take Gold in a time of 5:48.95, a full length clear of the Italians. The result ensured that Team GB won the overall team trophy.

Ian Lawson, this year’s Coach of the VIII coached the IV- that won bronze and silver medals on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The previous weekend Alex Barakat (MJP) won Gold in the VIII and IV+ for England in the Home International Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. England dominated the regatta, winning men’s. women’s, junior men’s and junior women’s trophies, plus the overall trophy.
