His first feature film, ‘Black Pond’ is out now in cinemas. Co-directed with Will Sharpe, it stars Chris Langham and Simon Amstell, and has been nominated at the British Independent Film Awards. The Daily Telegraph, Financial Times and New Statesman named it one of the best films of 2011. You can find out more about it here. Hailed as one of the strongest British debuts this year, Black Pond is a witty, haunting and poignant film by BAFTA-nominated filmmakers Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley. It uses a mixture of mockumentary style talking heads and narrative storytelling to conduct situational comedy, creating a fresh take on the dysfunctional family drama which has been seen over and over. Tom Kingsley first made his name directing music videos and adverts. He was shortlisted for Best New Director at the 2010 Music Video Awards, and his work has been nominated for the 2012 BAFTAs, the 2011 British Independent Film Awards, the Guardian First Film Award, the Evening Standard Film Awards, and the Raindance Film Festival. Tom also directs music videos and commercials. He was nominated for Best New Director at the 2010 MVAs. Three quarters of his music videos have been shown at the BFI’s BUG, where they were called ‘charming’ and ‘bonkers’ and then ‘charming’ again. His short films have been politely hailed as ‘beautiful’ by Shots Magazine, and less politely as ‘shit-hot’ by the Young Director Award.
