Eton Futures launched its weekly career seminar series with an engaging and insightful talk by Old Etonian Francesco Ciardi, a Hedge Fund Manager with Elliott Advisors. Over one hundred boys attended and heard not only of the potential rewards and satisfactions of financial careers but also of the challenges posed by working in this very competitive sector. Mr Ciardi explained his own career track and was able to advise boys on possible routes into the profession. He emphasised the need to develop economic and financial literacy in this area and to gain work experience and, ultimately, internships, sooner rather than later! He directed the boys to a reading list and suggested some key blogs, books and magazines that would help develop awareness and understanding. He also talked about the advantages of studying MOOCs and other professional examinations. Overall, this was a great start to the career education year at a time when boys in D Block (Year-11) are taking the Morrisby Online Test and beginning to consider seriously their university and career horizons.
